Are you ready for Web 3.0? Francesco Fasano from University of Calabria is chair of track 2.2 Web 3.0 and Sustainability, discussing the opportunities and challenges of the next generation of the internet at the 2025 R&D Management Conference.
Web 3.0 describes the next evolution of the internet, which aims to change how people interact on the web and provide a more user centred access to documents, applications and multi-media.
Francesco comments that he chose this subject as the theme aligns with his current research interests, which explore the impact of innovative technologies, like blockchain and AI, on business models and sustainable practices.
“For some years, I have been collaborating with the “Strategic Change Franco Fontana” Research Center at Luiss University in Rome, which aims to monitor digital transformation and provide cutting-edge tools to promote innovation and value creation.
“As part of the research centre’s activities, in surveyed over 100 managers and this revealed both that the current regulation likely needs improvement and that regulation itself can foster the development of these technologies.”
Track 2.2 Web 3.0 and Sustainability: opportunities and challenges
Web 3.0 represents the next stage in the digital world’s evolution, marked by technologies like blockchain, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), cryptocurrencies, metaverse and artificial intelligence.
These technologies, offer vast potential for organisations to achieve economic, environmental and social sustainability.
The synergy between Web 3.0 and sustainability is crucial for building a future that is both efficient and protective of environmental resources.
This track aims to nurture studies analysing the several facets of the relationship between Web 3.0 technologies and economic, social, and environmental sustainability. The objective is to highlight benefits and drawbacks for organisations associated to Web 3.0 technologies, as well as identify future opportunities and challenges that they may face.
